Edition X of the “Peak News” Newsletter: The Staying Warm Edition

Happy February, Apogee Universe! For us Mainers, February means we’re in the thick of winter and finally getting some good snow. Our office crew has definitely been taking advantage of the snow and getting out to downhill ski, cross-country ski, and even snowshoeing with an adorable one-year old (see the end of the newsletter for a bonus photo)!

Also – if your Apogee Alum has done something cool or exciting recently (and we know you have!), please send a blurb and photo to andi@apogeeadventures.com.

We love hearing from you!

A Molto Buono Apogee Alum Feature

For this edition of peak news, we’re thrilled to be featuring five-time Apogee alumna Gabby Viggiano! Gabby started out her Apogee student days on our New England Mountains & Coast trip, then moved on in following years to our Caribbean ServiceMaine’s Downeast Explorer, the erstwhile Scottish Highlands trip, before capping off her Apogee student yeas with our Alps Explorer program.

While she has long aged out of Apogee trips, Gabby still has a love for exploration! She now lives in Rome, Italy, where she’s studying a combination of Animal Science and Journalism at the American University of Rome. Gabby will graduate soon, and will use her degrees to pursue her career goal of working for an organization like National Geographic. Gabby credits her Apogee experiences with giving her the confidence to travel and take on new challenges (including the gap year she took between high school and university to do wildlife conservation work in South Africa — so cool!). We’re in awe of the amazing things that Gabby has done and can’t wait to see where life takes her next (literally – she seems to go to a lot of cool places!).

A Dramatic Apogee Staff Feature

One of our 2022 Vermont to Montreal leaders, Lena Pepe, has swapped her bike for the stage since the Apogee summer concluded. Lena is a long time – and, if we do say so, exceptionally talented – thespian who recently made her New York City, Off-Broadway debut in a piece called “Cornelia Street.”

For those wondering, Lena is just as good onstage as she is on a bike. Director Kevin Cashman, who saw Lena in the show this January, can attest to this!

On top of performing in Cornelia Street nearly every day, Lena is still making time to graduate from Vassar College this spring with a degree in Drama. With her dedication and talent, we know Lena will be in many more shows going forward and we are so excited to continue to watch her grow!

Trip Feature: Maine Coast Photo

Sticking with the theme of the arts, we figured we’d feature one of our “specialty” trips in this newsletter: Maine Coast Photo! There are few places more photogenic than Maine in the summer, and this trip is a wonderful chance for students with an interest in photography to hone their skills while exploring the beautiful areas up and down the coast of Maine. Over the course of the trip, students will work daily with our professional photography instructor who will give group and individual instruction on a variety of topics from shooting to editing. Like our other “specialty” trips, this program stays in indoor housing — our MCP students get the special experience of living in a yurt! This trip has been entirely full across all sessions since its introduction in 2017, but we still have availability for this summer – come and get it before it fills!

Parallel Adventures – Spring Trips!

Hey, parents – like the idea of getting some fresh air, too? But….maybe you’re keen to finish up your day with, perhaps, a glass of red wine and a nice bed? Well, we hope you’ll consider Parallel‘s quickly approaching spring trips to Spain and Portugal. We have good availability at the moment on May’s Spain trip and only two spots remaining on the May Portugal trip.

Learn more about the trips and Parallel, in general, by reaching out to Chad at chad@parallel-adventures.com or join our first-ever live webinar coming up on Thursday, March 2 at 8 PM ET!
