Day 48: You Can’t Get There From Here.

We said some goodbyes to both Maine’s Downeast Explorer groups and our final Golden State Adventure trip today. Though it’s always sad to see our students leave for the summer, we can’t help but look forward to catching up with them again in the future for another adventure! Now that the summer is coming to a close we are left with just New England trips. And with so many of our remaining trips based in Maine, we thought it was only appropriate we left you with a Maine-themed post (including our personal favorite Maine phrase for today’s title). Wicked!

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJ, CI, GSA, NEMCANEMCBMCCE, MCP, DEXA, DEXB, VLCA

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

Action-packed 24 hours for this MCJ squad! Starting last night, the group had a s’mores party, complete with a Backstreet Boys sing-along. Today, they started their morning volunteering as they picked up trash along their coastal hiking trail. Afterwards, they went for a refreshing dip and enjoyed lunch on the beach before enjoying a final celebratory dinner in Freeport!

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

Our CI trip continued their Cape Cod trek, biking along Atlantic coastline and enjoying some ocean views. today marked their last day of riding – but it was a big one! All the way down the Cape to Provincetown. We’re sure a salty dip (or more) was taken along the way as well as some breaks for…ice cream? Popsicles perhaps? I think I’m getting hungry…

We’re continually impressed with leader Meg’s mad hops

Golden State Adventure (GSA):

It was a bittersweet departure day today for our GSA crew, but here are some photos from their last night in Santa Monica yesterday. Smiles all around in this group and some action shots, too. We wish you a great end to your summers. We will miss you GSA!

New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)

NEMCA enjoyed touring on kayak in Southern Maine today before exploring the mainland. On a hot day like this in New England, the ocean wasn’t a bad place to be! Afterwards this group spent their evening together at a final dinner. Is it really the last night?!

New England Mountains & Coast B (NEMCB)

Water, water everywhere for this group! It may have been humid, but that coastal breeze helped our paddlers stay cool on their ocean trip. Tonight they explored the flagship LL Bean and the classic Bean Boot and found a spot for their final dinner together. Full bellies tonight!

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

Today MCCE spent their morning conferencing with staff about their essays followed by time to edit and revise their drafts. Their afternoon was spent picnic-ing and swimming in the ocean. I can’t really think of a better summer afternoon anywhere in New England!

Maine Coast Photo (MCP)

Today MCP set out with their cameras for a hike before hopping a ferry to a Monhegan Island – an iconic Maine working waterfront and artist colony for another photo shoot! There were so many photos to take on such a gorgeous day! Also, it is that time of year for fantastic ocean wildlife sightings! Fingers crossed for our campers.

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA)

Today this group said their goodbyes and headed off! It is always sad to see them go, but we can’t wait to catch up on all of their adventures next summer!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXB)

Final day for this group! With so many huge accomplishments this past week, we are very impressed with the new skills and resilience this group has been showing. We have loved watching their growth and can’t wait to see them again!

Vermont & Lake Champlain A (VLCA)

It was community service day for this lot! These gestures of giving-back are so important to our groups. We are always glad to see their enjoyment in these moments as they work hard to provide a service to the local community. Volunteering rocks! Or maybe it… paints? And let’s not forget a trip to Ben & Jerry’s for their famous Vermonster!

Is a trip to Burlington really complete without a trip to the sock store??

Ending on the topic of ice cream has my focus drifting to the freezer for my own pint, Ayuh! Have a good night!
