Day 37: Sunday Sunny Days!

It was a gorgeous day today, full of sunbeams and smiles, in Brunswick and for all of our amazing Apogee trips! So many opportunities to try something new while grinning radiantly from ear to ear. Whether they were paddling on Pacific waves, or hovering in kayaks on the Atlantic, heaving their packs while trekking through rainforests and backcountry, or even hightailing it across the Sun Belt, we know that the positive energy of Apogee and its campers shone like rays of sunshine. Check out the fun activities and pearly whites of today’s trips below!

New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)

This morning, our NEMCA group, or should we say Trail Angels, did some community service on the local hiking trails in Harpswell. They picked up trash and made the areas much better than how they found it– how’s that for Leave No Trace! Afterward, they celebrated their last night in Portland and were able to explore the shops and go to a restaurant for their final dinner.

Community service with some thrift store fashion statements!

New England Mountains & Coast B (NEMCB)

It was a warm day in Brunswick and NEMCB spent it kayaking around the beautiful Orr’s Island. After taking in the wonderful scenery of Maine’s coast, they cleaned themselves up at their campsite and headed over to Freeport for Last Night celebrations and a final dinner at a restaurant. Tonight they’ll be resting up for their journeys home tomorrow.

Caribbean Service (CS)

Today our CS group took to the Atlantic to rip some waves and make the Olympic Surfing Teams of the world look like newbies. After some rest tonight, they’ll be saying goodbye to Utuado and heading over to Vieques for more service and adventure!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA)

DEXA put in a solid day hike today while exploring Camden Hills State Park. It was a great way to kick off the trip and the group can’t wait to head to Acadia soon!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXB)

Welcome to Whaleboat Island, DEXB! Our group started their sea kayaking trip today in the beautiful Casco Bay. Tonight they’ll be island camping, so let’s hope for a clear night full of shooting stars!

Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)

Our Costa Rica Mountains & Coast crew were absolute champions on their challenging 9-mile hike today on the Chirripo trail and through the Cloudbridge Natural Reserve! While hiking through the rainforest they came across roaring waterfalls, plentiful wildlife, and views of the lush green mountains.

California Mountains & Coast (CMC)

CMC got to spend this morning doing some community service before transiting over to Manteca. Once they set up camp, they resupplied and prepared for their Yosemite backcountry trip that starts in a few days!

Trees galore!

Alaska Mountains & Coast A (AKMCA)

Diving courageously into the 495,000 acre Chugach State Park, AKMCA started their second backcountry portion today. Rumor has it that these trails feature more open vistas, which makes seeing moose and mountain goats even more likely! Good luck AKMCA, we can’t wait to see all of the amazing photos.

Alaska Mountains & Coast B (AKMCB)

Land ho! The AKMCB crew paddled and ferried back to Seward today after their incredible kayaking expedition. Trading liquid water for frozen ice, they then prepped for tomorrow’s glacier trekking. Did you know Seward has both glaciers and rainforests? So cool that they get to really see it all! They weren’t able to get us photos before press time, so we’ll have to wait one more day for smiling faces.

Alaska Mountains & Coast C (AKMCC)

Van sweet van! AKMCC emerged from the backcountry today, and celebrated a successful journey. After some camping closer to civilization, they’ll drive down some of the most beautiful scenic coastline the country has to offer on their way to Seward tomorrow. Safe travels, AKMCC!

Northwest Explorer (NWXA)

NWXA had an action-packed day, paddling their kayaks back to Guemes Island and then preparing for their backcountry adventure. Wowza! They are going to have a stellar time in the North Cascades, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.

Northwest Explorer (NWXB)

Our NWXB crew also had a big travel day today, as they drove and ferried their way to Olympic National Park. Once settled in, they began gearing up for some outstanding Olympics hiking. Sights are set on the backcountry, and we know this crew will crush it. Enjoy some beautiful camping, NWXB!

Pacific Coast (PC)

These PC’ers were STOKED for their kayaking today! They paddled some radical waves in Eureka and had an absolute blast. After this nice low-mileage day, this crew will be ready to take on one of their two 60-mile challenge days tomorrow. Next stop, riding through the Redwoods!

America Coast to Coast 1 (ACC1)

ACC1 enjoyed a restful and mail-full day in Phoenix. Can you believe this is their last rest day until San Diego? Only six days of biking left until they’ve made it to the West Coast! Full steam ahead ACC1, you’ve got this!

America Coast to Coast 2 (ACC2)

Reaching new heights today, ACC2 cruised up some crazy elevation on their 54-mile ride to Payson. They’re about halfway through Arizona and going strong, ready to tackle a nearly 90-mile ride tomorrow. What goes up must come down, so enjoy some sweet downhill riding before your rest day, ACC2!

7,500 ft. of pure bliss!
