Day 23: Sights to See!

By: Kelly McGinty

Well, folks, it’s been another busy day all over the Apogee world! Groups have trekked through the back country, snapped photos of Maine’s beauty, and given back to the communities they’re exploring. While some hugged and waved goodbye, others kayaked along the coast, and one group even biked through – yes, through! – a lake! Interest piqued? Check out the photos below!

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJ, CICRM, CSA, MCP, DEXA, DEXB, VM, CRLS, CMCA, CMCB, ECCA, ECCB, ACC1, ACC2

Maine Coast Junior (MCJA)

MCJA spent the day checking out Maine from a new angle – by sea! The group kept their eyes peeled for eagles overhead, fish below, and even had a chance to check out tide pools back on the mainland.

Maine Coast Junior (MCJB)

MCJB had a blast in Apogee’s hometown of Brunswick! Partnering with Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, they cleaned bins and food for the benefit of the local community. Their organization game was on point!

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

CI crushed their 13 mile ride today and set up camp for the next couple of nights. Tonight they’ll dream of surfing the waves – which will become a reality tomorrow!

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains (CRM)

We were sad to say goodbye to our Rocky Mountain explorers! The group will have memories – and some picturesque blog photos – to to remember it by as they return home.

Caribbean Service Adventure (CSA)

This group put the “service” in the Caribbean Service Adventure today. Not only did they help beautify a former bunker, but they also made time to hit the beach. Neat architecture and blue waters? Not a bad day!

Maine Coast Photo (MCP)

Our resident photographers got up early for a morning shoot at a lobster wharf on Southport Island. If only a photograph could capture the smell of the early morning mist and calls of seagulls above!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA)

Our DEXA’ers spent the day exploring Maine mountains – and apparently a cool footbridge – from the comfort of their trusty hiking boots. To top it all off? A feast!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXB)

Our DEXB team is enjoying their last night on the Appalachian Trail. Not only will they emerge from the back country tomorrow, but so will their photos – we can’t wait!

Vermont to Montréal (VM)

Our VM crew was back on their bikes today, continuing north and pedaling through Lake Champlain. Biking through a lake can lead to scenic shots like the ones below, and they also took a bike ferry!

Costa Rica Language & Service (CRLS)

CRLS is saying adios to their Spanish lessons and spent the afternoon exploring the town of Turrialba. Tonight’s agenda? Salsa dancing lessons! Olé!

California Mountains & Coast (CMCA)

CMCA put their group to the test today – no, it wasn’t a challenge day – they tested their length and flexibility while stretching around some giant sequoias! Coming live from Calaveras State Park, the photos below are evidence that they just barely made it around the tree, some of which are reportedly up to 2,500 years old.

California Mountains & Coast (CMCB)

While we don’t have photos from the CMCB’ers while they trek through the Yosemite back country, the good news is that tomorrow, after they emerge from the back country, we will have a truck load of Yosemite photos to share!

Europe Coast to Coast (ECCA)

It was a big day for ECCA as they cruised into the sixth and final country of their European tour. With just a week left, they look forward to the many sights – and foods – that Italy has to offer.

Europe Coast to Coast (ECCB)

Blue skies, blue water, and smiles abound – looks like a great day to be biking in the Alps. Tomorrow? Italy!

Look at that clump of hi-vis in the middle!

America Coast to Coast (ACC1)

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently that applies to the livestock too. Check out that colossal bull on the left! Not sure which is cooler – that or the sunrise.

America Coast to Coast (ACC2)

These folks love biking, but nothing beats a day off the bike to give the ol’ legs a rest when you’re midway through the country. The group enjoyed a lackadaisical morning, picked up mail, and will be ready to roll tomorrow!
