Do you ever feel like life is so good it almost feels like a movie? As August rolls in, we have to pinch ourselves with how much fun we’re having out in the field. Every group seems to be growing closer through adventure, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. That got us thinking: if each of our groups had a theme song from a famous musical, what would it be? Read on to discover all the amazing things happening around the world, and the song that captures each group’s day!

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)
After a trip beginning primarily on land, our AKMCers have taken to the water! Today our crew spent the day kayaking on the Glacial Bear Lake before heading back to Seward where they cozied up to watch a movie after a long day of paddling. And what better way to end the day than falling asleep to the sound of rain outside their tents dreaming of getting back on the water tomorrow? Given their day on the water, AKMC’s song is “Fathoms Below” from The Little Mermaid.
Alps Explorer (AX)
The trip of 100+ miles, 3 countries, mustaches, a whole lot of fresh bread, and treasured gelato stops ends today. It’s so hard to say goodbye! We wistfully watched as our AXer’s made their way home, but found comfort in knowing that we’ll always have the memories we made together. With a mix of happy contentment and melancholy, AX’s song is “So Long, Farewell” from The Sound of Music!
Iceland Mountains & Coast (IMC)
You would not BELIEVE the day IMC just had. Well, you might have an idea if you’ve seen the itinerary. A glacier exploration on a perfect bluebird day? There’s truly nothing like it. These intrepid explorers geared up donning harnesses, helmets, crampons, and their coolest shades to take on the day. Our IMCers learned how to (safely) use an ice pick and hiked in the stuff of dreams – or movies! They were right next to where scenes from Interstellar and Batman were filmed. But the fun didn’t stop after they exited the glacier. A scavenger hunt and shiny nail polish session followed once our IMCers returned to camp. Given the events of the day IMC’s song is “Frozen Heart” from Frozen!
Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)
Day three of MCCE and this crew is well on their way to creating their essay drafts! After a morning of writing, reflecting, and rewriting, this squad got outside for an afternoon of games and challenges, culminating in the show of a lifetime this evening: the 2026 MCCE3 Talent Show! As this epic production is going on as we speak, we don’t have photographic evidence quite yet, but stay tuned in tomorrow’s blog for glimpses into their awesome day! In the meantime, we have deemed this crew’s song as “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman!
Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)
Holy moly! If ever there was a perfect day to explore Casco Bay, it’s today! MCJ had blue skies overhead and sunshine smiles all around as they mastered their paddles and spent an epic morning on the water! The crew then loaded up the fun-mobile to drive to Acadia National Park, where they will spend the next few days camping, hiking, and playing many more games! While some incredible sunrises await MCJ in Acadia, today their song is “Days In The Sun” from Beauty and the Beast.
Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)
DEX has successfully finished their backcountry adventure! After a few nights enjoying life on the Appalachian Trail, our DEX squad was welcomed back into town for the day with a delicious (and very fancy) charcuterie board for lunch, a laundry stop, and a pizza party to top it off. Yay for good eats and clean clothes! They then settled into their newest camp home where they will spend the next few days. In keeping with a day of reset, and having a grand ol’ time in the process, DEX’s song is “Into the Woods” from Into the Woods.
New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)
Oh boy, this NEMC crew knows how to do a transit day in style! They had a sparkly start to their morning with a bagel breakfast complete with sprinkles! The volume was high and the vibes even higher as they serenaded their leaders with a kazoo symphony before hopping in their trusty van to head to their second campground of the trip. The rest of the day was spent on friendship bracelet making, playing loads of games, and lots of rest as they prepare for tomorrow… CHALLENGE DAY! Stay tuned for this squad to take on Mount Washington bright and early tomorrow morning for what is sure to be an epic, memorable adventure! To celebrate their musical escapades today, their song is “You Can’t Stop The Beat” from Hairspray!
Pyrenees Mountains & Coast (PMC)
Whiskers ON or day three on the CDF! Today PMC loaded up and donned their fiercest feline faces to take on yet another gorgeous day of hiking the Carros de Foc. They conquered big climbs and were rewarded with even bigger views from the top, complete with staggering mountain faces and pristine glacial lakes, before making their way to their next refugi. Tomorrow they will offload their packs for a gorgeous day hike and even more time to soak in the beautiful national park. To celebrate their day crushing challenging terrain, PMC’s song is The Climb from The Hannah Montana Movie!
Vermont to Montreal (VM)
Last but not least, VM spent their final full day together reveling in their successful arrival in Montreal and exploring the city! After a lively karaoke session last night our VMers woke up today ready to play. They wandered the Rue de Catharine, had a blast playing games in the arcades, and finally enjoyed one last epic dinner together. Oh how we wish we were on VM! As they frolicked their day away in Montreal, we think their song has to be “Dancing Through Life” from Wicked!
