And just like that, another unforgettable day of the Apogee summer in the books! Some of our favorite travelers explored European cities and hiked through stunning vistas while others sadly shared their final hugs goodbye. Three more trips came to a close today, but we can’t help but start to get excited about the trips starting over the next several days. Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)
All epic trips must come to an end, and today was time for this AKMC crew to share one more round of hugs (and an airport selfie, of course) before heading home. They did it all on this trip, from exploring the Alaskan backcountry to sea kayaking under the iconic backdrop of Seward and ice climbing on a glacier! This group will be so missed, but we are so proud of the challenges they conquered and the Apogee family they created along the way!
Alps Explorer A (AXA)
Holy moly, it’s been an awesome day in AXA-land! After their rest day yesterday, this crew was feeling amped to get back on the trail and very excited for what was awaiting them at the end of the day! Day 8 on the TMB marked their last border crossing from Italy back into Switzerland. As they left the Italian Alps behind, they took a mountain-top nap and looked back on the ground they covered in the past few days before descending back into classic Swiss alpine valleys. Think sweeping views of grassy hillsides dotted with wildflowers, and blue skies as far as the eye could see! And what could be a better end to this stunning day than arriving at a cozy mountain Refuge for the night? They finished off the day with a delicious meal and plenty of time to kick up their feet and enjoy Refuge-living. We are beyond excited to see what TMB day 9 brings tomorrow!
Alps Explorer B (AXB)
Today we take a break from our regularly scheduled AXB hiking content for a rest day in Italy! After many mornings of hitting the trail bright and early, AXB took the opportunity to get some extra zzz’s this morning and give their legs a rest…at least for a little while until they started up one of the most picturesque soccer games we’ve ever seen! I mean, seriously, who needs a World Cup stadium when you’ve got mountains like that as a backdrop?! Then they treated themselves to some afternoon exploration and gelato in town before gearing up to hike tomorrow, feeling rested and pumped for the adventures to come.
Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)
CRMC enjoyed their final day together in Costa Rica. They played soccer, went to the beach, ate a delicious lunch before getting on the road and heading to their final destination: Alajuela. They explored the town, had a final dinner out, and went out for dessert. We have had so much fun staying up to date with all the cool things this group has gotten up to. We can’t believe their trip ends tomorrow. Wow!
Dolomite Mountains & Croatian Coast (DMCC)
Ciao from Venezia! Today, DMCC hopped on a ferry to Venice, where they are spending their final day together before departing with such sweet sorrow tomorrow morning. After a morning on the water, they spent the afternoon exploring the city, shopping for souvenirs, and, of course, taking photos with all the classic Venetian sights! Spirits were HIGH as they capped off the day with their final dinner together, complete with waterfront views and Italian food we are seriously jealous of!
Europe Coast to Coast (ECC)
Bienvenue à Paris! ECC left their bikes behind today for a Parisian rest day adventure! They took the train from camp right into the heart of La Ville Lumière, where they spent the day meandering along the Champs-Élysées, checking out the Louvre pyramid, and eating crepes! And they obviously had to snap some pictures in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower, too. Tonight it’s back to camp for another rest day tomorrow before continuing their sojourn across northern France. Bon nuit, mes amis!
Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)
The DEX crew woke up bright and early on an island and spent the morning paddling back to the mainland before leaving the Downeast Coast behind. They hopped in their van, bound for their last campsite of the trip and an afternoon and evening of celebrations. For their last hurrah before departing tomorrow morning, DEX explored Freeport’s picturesque downtown, stopped in a few souvenir shops, and enjoyed a yummy meal out for their last dinner together!
Northwest Mountains & Coast (NWMC)
This amazing group of NWMC explorers wrapped up their camp fun and headed home today. Over the past thirteen days, they have summited mountains on the Olympic Peninsula, explored the San Juan Islands in their kayaks, and even whitewater rafted in the North Cascades! We couldn’t be more excited about the amazing memories this crew has made together and hope they carry the stories, laughs, views, and friends with them as they say goodbye to an awesome two weeks of adventures together!
Vermont to Montreal (VM)
Today we said a bittersweet “see you later” to this outstanding VM crew. They have laughed, played endless games, and most importantly, biked over 175 miles in two countries from Vermont to Montreal! As this awesome squad says their goodbyes, their leaders and the rest of us at Apogee are so proud of their accomplishments over the past twelve days and the family they created on trip.
