Day 31: Another one for the books!

Has a whole month really passed since Summer 2019 began? Say it ain’t so! The days are flying by, yet we’re relishing all that lies ahead. From goodbyes to good times, rock climbing to rafting, and Arizona to the Alps, this was yet another busy day in Apo-land. Peep the amazing photos below!!

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJNEMCCRMA, CRMB, MCCE, MCP, CRLS, NWXA, NWXB, PCA, PCB, AXECC1, ECC2, ACC

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

Say it ain’t so! After a celebratory dinner and ice cream by the water last night, our MCJ trip came to a close today. We miss you already!!

New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)

Our NEMC group has had an amazing 24 hours! After summiting Mount Washington yesterday (yes… you read that correctly. SUMMITING!) they decided to give their legs a break and put their arms to good use as they gave white water rafting a go. Ryan and Emma report that they have a group of all-stars who are game for any adventure – by land or by sea (or in this case, river)!

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains A (CRMA)

Our Rocky Mountain A squad hit the water today! Excitement was high as the group headed out to navigate some of Colorado’s finest rapids. Splashes and smiles galore!

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains B (CRMB)

This group decided to put the “rock” in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, resting their hiking legs and instead flexing their climbing muscles! This isn’t your every-day-run-of-the-mill indoor rock wall covered in brightly colored grips – no, they made the most of the terrain and used nature’s foot and hand holds to make their way to the top. Rock on, CRM! (Plus some bonus pics from yesterday’s hike)

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

Our essayists have put in the work over the last week, and it’s now time to finalize their edits and hit “print!” Their last full day marks a chance to share their final essay (if they so choose) and enjoy a celebratory dinner to revel in all their accomplishments. Congrats, MCCE!

Maine Coast Photo (MCP)

Our photogs headed to Monhegan Island today! After hopping a ferry out to the island, they found inspiration in the beautiful landscape and iconic lighthouse (and apparently a very photogenic seagull!). Located 12 nautical miles off of the main(e)land, Monhegan was a great chance to put all of the skills they’ve been learning over the last few days to the test – while soaking up sunshine and sea breezes!

Costa Rica Language & Service (CRLS)

After making their way out to Manuel Antonio National Park yesterday, our CLRS’ers were pumped to stretch their legs and explore their new surroundings. They enjoyed a guided tour of the park, checking out the many diverse critters that call Costa Rica home, and then soaked up some sun at the beach. Just another day in CR!

Northwest Explorer (NWXA)

We heard reports of a great time coming out of the Olympic National Park backcountry today! Emma & Liam’s explorers soaked in stunning views and grew stronger with every step as they carried their hefty packs the last few days. After emerging they headed for the ferry – and most certainly showers!

Northwest Explorer (NWXB)

Our NWXB squad is enjoying their second backcountry night deep in the Washington woods! We’re thinking they probably ate miles for breakfast and lunch, then spent the evening talking about how awesome it is to have no cell service or devices to distract them from the beauty of the natural world. However, we’ll have to wait for photographic evidence tomorrow! (I suppose cameras are technically technology, but you get the point).

Pacific Coast (PCA)

Our PCA team put in 30 miles today as they crossed into California. We can hardly believe that Oregon is already behind them! They’re looking forward to a day off the bikes tomorrow as they make the most of their first well deserved rest day. However, these folks can’t sit still all day… instead, they’ll give surfing a go and do their best to catch some gnarly waves.

Pacific Coast (PCB)

PCB had their biggest day of riding to date – a whopping 49 miles! They soaked in every moment of their last day cruising through Oregon, with almost a week of riding in their rear view mirrors. Notes from years past mentioned the tremendous views, and the rumors were true, as seen below!

Alps Explorer (AX)

It was a day of preparation for the Alps squad! With the Tour du Mont Blanc on the horizon, Rachel, Jack, and Co. made sure to check off a day of resting and resupplying so they’re ready to rock when their feet hit the trail. Perfect time to make sure their map and navigation skills are up to the challenge!

Europe Coast to Coast 1 (ECC1)

Well, folks, this blogger can hardly believe it but ECC1 has officially come to a close. One month and many countries later, these accomplished bikers are back with their families, undoubtedly sharing stories of their legendary ride and the views along the way. We miss you already, coast-to-coasters!

Europe Coast to Coast 2 (ECC2)

After their glorious ride into Venice yesterday, this group enjoyed a well deserved day of celebration and exploration. With final goodbyes on the horizon tomorrow, they soaked in every moment of togetherness as they scoped out canals and shops throughout the city.

America Coast to Coast (ACC)

ACC is the apple (pie) of our eye! They made the most of their stint in Pie Town yesterday and enjoyed “the best pie we have ever had!” according to Lorin. Not only did they make it to the continental divide, but today they wheeled their way into Arizona – their penultimate state! Where has the time gone?!
