Leader Profile – Emily Weir

After leading our Cape Cod & the Islands and New England Mountains & Coast trips in 2009, and our Coast to Quebec trip in 2010, Pennsylvania native Emily Weir is excited to return to Apogee for her third summer.   This time, Emily is leading the biggest trip of them all, America Coast to Coast!   A 2009 cum laude graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Emily majored in American Studies and English, served as a co-captain on the varsity cross-country running team, wrote for the newspaper, and offered her friendly services as tour guide for prospective students.

Emily is now working full-time with the National College Advising Corps as an Assistant Director.   At NCAC, Emily writes grants and helps low-income, first-generation students with the college search and application process in rural Pennsylvania.   An avid traveler who has seen all fifty States, Emily’s favorite bike ride (thus far…) has been the sunrise ride down the side of an active volcano at Haleakala National Park in Maui.   When she’s not training for this summer’s ride, Emily volunteers with adults applying for US citizenship.   Apart from her obvious love of adventure, Emily brings an open, warm spirit to each of her Apogee groups.   Her cross-country students are sure to benefit from Emily’s infectious enthusiasm, compassion and love of adventure.   Emily is certified in First Aid and CPR.
