Day 7: A Week of Wonders

Greetings, trusty readers! Thanks for sticking with us here at blog HQ, we truly have some gems to show you today. It has been one whole, wonderful week of Apogee 2019 and we can’t believe how fast the summer is zooming by! In just seven days, the Apogee family has sea kayaked on the Maine coast, camped in the remote corners of Alaska, surfed off of the coast of Puerto Rico, and so much more. It has been a week full of trying new things and exploring new places, which is what Apogee is all about. Hopefully this blog will bring some of those adventures to you, wherever you are, and remind us all to live a little more boldly!

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

We can’t believe that MCJ came to a close today, after an incredible week of Maine exploration. Fabulous trips must always come to a bittersweet end, but we know these kiddos will be taking their sense of adventure with them wherever they go next!

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

Our CI group enjoyed the gorgeous day with a relaxing bike ride to Wellfleet! They had a quintessential Cape Cod evening with games, laughter, and, of course, some beach time.

New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)

NEMCA packed up and hit the trails today, as they switched campsites in the White Mountains! They discovered some pretty rad natural wonders as they hiked.

New England Mountains & Coast B (NEMCB)

NEMCB also moved camps today, while getting in some classic New England day hikes. After their day of service yesterday, this group was enthusiastic to keep finding new trails in the great Whites!

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains (CRM)

Rise and shine CRM! This morning was an early one, but well worth it once these intrepid explorers got the chance to go whitewater rafting in one of the most stunning locations in the world. They had a blast splishing and splashing (official whitewater rafting terms), and were happy to take it easy at camp after the big day!

Golden State Adventure (GSA)

Before their big ferry ride to Ventura this afternoon, GSA enjoyed their last day on the Channel Islands with a beautiful day hike! A big thanks to our patient GSA families as we hope to have an abundance of pictures of the group’s last few days either later tonight or on tomorrow’s blog!

Caribbean Service (CS)

Today was a big travel day for CS, who took off for Vieques! Between walkin’, drivin’, and ferry ridin’, CS got some awesome views of Puerto Rico and they are pumped up for their next service project!

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

Our MCCE crew is plugging along with their essays, and had one-on-one conferences to do some editing and refining this morning! Afterwards, they spent their afternoon giving back through work with a local food bank and exploring the Maine coast!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)

DEX got their land legs back today as they left the kayaks behind and hit the trails! They had a fantastic day of exploring in Acadia National Park and hiked four peaks!

Vermont to Montréal (VM)

Wahoo!! VM spent the day on Lake Champlain, where they had a lovely kayak and picnic. After four sweet hours on the water, they hit the road again to bike to their new camp!

Costa Rica Language & Service (CRLS)

Today was full up of adorable animals and beautiful beaches for our CRLS crew! They spent the day exploring Manuel Antonio National Park, where they enjoyed a guided tour before a yummy picnic lunch!

Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)

Today was CRMC’s first big day of hiking! They got in some nice miles in the Cloudbridge Nature Reserve and took in some of the best views imaginable. Not to mention the amount of adorable animals they have been hanging out with!

California Mountains & Coast (CMCA)

CMCA spent their first night in the backcountry, where they got an early start to explore the many treasures in store for them at Yosemite! Unfortunately for us, this means we probably won’t be receiving any blog pictures from them tonight!

California Mountains & Coast (CMCB)

CMCB also got to enjoy the wonders of Yosemite National Park today. It was just like the movie Free Solo…without the dangers of actually free soloing… and there were snacks!

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)

Let’s hear from our brave Alaskan explorers! Today AKMC left the backcountry through the Williwaw Lakes Loop, and enjoyed a rare night in the front country! Prepare to be jealous from the following pictures:

Northwest Explorer (NWXA)

Today our indomitable NWXA team hiked out of the backcountry and caught a ferry to Bay View State Park! These awesome adventurers spent the night relaxing and playing games after their multi-day backcountry excursion!

Northwest Explorer (NWXB)

NWXB enjoyed their second day of backcountry hiking and camping by exploring some of the most remote and unique corners of Washington state. Again, the backcountry does not promise many blog pictures, but we promise there are many smiling faces coming your way soon!

Pacific Coast (PCA)

PCA continued to have an absolute blast and pedaled their way into the Golden State before 9am! They crushed their daily miles while still having energy to play some whacky games at their new camp in coastal Cali!

Pacific Coast (PCB)

Eureka! PCB is having the time of their lives as they continue to take on any challenges headed their way. They had another smooth (but big!) day of biking, and made some incredible memories of the Oregon coast.

Alps Explorer (AX)

Today was a well deserved rest day for AX, who got up early to take the train to Martigny! After getting some practical things accomplished, this group ended the day by flexing their impressive cooking skills and getting pumped up for the stunning hikes to come!

Pyrenees Mountains & Coast (PMC)

PMC had a rest and travel day today, where they took a break from the gorgeous hiking they’ve been doing to get ready for the next incredible phase of their trip! They cooked up an award-worthy French dinner to celebrate their first night in France! Bon Appétit!

Europe Coast to Coast 1 (ECC1)

ECC1 also had a much needed rest day after their huge day of riding yesterday! They spent their time gettin’ things done in Bruges, Belgium, before some awesome game playing and exploring!

Europe Coast to Coast 2 (ECC2)

ECC2 had an incredible day of riding and killed it on those European hills! They made it to the sweet little city of Bruges, Belgium, where they got settled with some whacky storytelling and riddles.

America Coast to Coast (ACC)

ACC had another monster biking day where they kept their spirits high while sailing through hilly Georgia! We could not be more proud of these champions who are making great time and nailing their daily miles. Next up, rest day!
