Tune in below to see how these groups all “move on up” today, one step closer to the initial goals they set for themselves at trip start. Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)
Move On Up… to the arctic frontier! Today AKMC geared up with crampons and ice axes to climb a glacier. What a way to spend their last day in Seward! Tomorrow, they’ll transit to Anchorage and share one final day together before wrapping up their Alaskan adventures on Friday!
Alps Explorer (AX)
Move On Up… to the Tour du Mont Blanc! Today, AX spent the day preparing to embark on their epic multi-day trek around one of Europe’s most prominent mountains tomorrow. They got energized this morning with a round of “dance game” before hitting the road. When they got to their next campsite, they did laundry and prepared to hike bright and early tomorrow morning. And as a game-loving bunch, they couldn’t help playing ping pong, bocce, and soccer to round out their rest day! Sweet dreams, AXers! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for them on their TMB journey!
Colorado’s Rocky Mountains (CRM)
Move On Up… to the Rocky Mountains, where today Apogee students touched down in Denver for an amazing nine days of exploring the Rocky Mountain west! After meeting up with their leaders, this newest bunch of Apo-friends took a scenic drive to their campsite, glimpsing their first views of the mountains on the way. After some icebreaker games and a delicious first dinner at camp, CRM snuggled in to rest up for their first day of hiking tomorrow!
Caribbean Service Puerto Rico (CSPR)
Move On Up… to another day in paradise! Today CSPR completed their final day of service, where they worked with farmers to help out with some weeding and learned about bokashi, a Japanese fertilizer used to keep crops thriving in the arid but beautiful southwesterly region of Puerto Rico. After putting in the work, they explored a lighthouse and hiked to a beautiful cliffside beach.
Dolomite Mountains & Croatian Coast (DMCC)
Move On Up… to their last cozy mountain rifugio on the AV1! Today, DMCC hiked and hiked some more, and with a little faith (not to mention a morning stretch circle) they made it! Their trek through the Dolomites has taken them to so many epic locations, and tonight they will be sleeping in a Rifugio for the last time on this trip. However, there are still plenty more adventures to come as this bunch of explorers heads for the Mediterranean coast in the coming days!
Europe Coast to Coast (ECC)
Move On Up… to three countries in one day! Today, ECC said a final farewell to Austria, passed through Switzerland for 20 minutes (so they can check yet another country off the list!), and arrived at last in Italy. After a long, meandering descent out of the mountains, they rolled into their campsite in the only region of Italy where German is widely spoken: South Tyrol.
Iceland Mountains & Coast (IMC)
Move On Up… to look back and celebrate! On their final day of the trip, IMC celebrated their achievements, the fun they’ve had, and their friendships made by exploring the capital city of Iceland! They took in the cobblestone streets of Reykjavik and finished the day with their final dinner together where they enjoyed one last night before sharing bittersweet hugs and goodbyes as they head for home tomorrow. IMC was so busy having fun together on their last full day that we didn’t get to bother them for pictures, so we will be sure to include pictures of today’s merriment in tomorrow’s blog!
New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)
Move On Up… to Olympian heights! After their Challenge Hike yesterday, NEMC enjoyed a well deserved rest day at camp, where they competed in an Olympics-style round of international competition! They faced off against each other in teams, each choosing to represent a different country, to see who could rise to the top in a series of games! After a long day of fun, this bunch cozied up for a good, long rest before they leave the White Mountains behind and head for the coast of Maine tomorrow morning!
Northwest Mountains & Coast (NWMC)
Move On Up… to the second National Park of the trip! From the Olympic peninsula to the skyscraping Cascade mountains, NWMC’s day took them away from the coast and up into the jaw-dropping forests of the North Cascades where they will spend the next few days. Spending much of the day in transit, they also made sure to gear up for the big push of the trip: challenge day tomorrow!
Pyrenees Mountains & Coast (PMC)
Move On Up… to the newly completed Sagrada Familia! Today, PMC donned their super snazzy Apogee t-shirts, explored Barcelona, and had an incredible final dinner together. Departures tomorrow will be bittersweet, yet we’ll all be left happily remembering the views enjoyed, hikes accomplished, and friendships made along their adventures in the last thirteen days together!
