Today marks the final trip start of our Apogee summer! While that’s a very bittersweet fact, we are big fans of living in the moment. And boy oh boy, do we have some awesome moments to live in! Our trips are walking on trails, paddling in rivers and through fjords, and writing their hearts out. Read below to see what these stellar students were up to in the field today!

Skip to a Specific Trip: AKMCA, AKMCB, CRMC, CSPR, CSVI, DEX, MCCE, MCJNEMC, VM

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMCA)

The AKMCA crew is ditching their hiking boats and trading them for paddles for the next few days. The kayaking section has commenced! The team took a water taxi out to a remote island in Kenai Fjords to set up camp then explore the surrounding area via kayak. There are a plethora of wildlife sightings in these areas so let’s cross our fingers that they see some whales, jellyfish or puffins during their time. The scenery alone is top tier!

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMCB)

The AKMCB crew is full steam ahead into their hiking section! Today they start their backcountry section doing the Williwaw Lake loop for an epic three day, two night extravaganza. The sun is shining, their boots are laced, their backpacks are buckled, they are ready to go! Let’s cross our fingers that they get some stellar animal sightings over the course of the next few days – they’ve already gotten good blue sky sightings!

Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)

Our CRMC crew is soaking up the jungle sun after a night of rain and busy morning of trail building! The freshly sun-showered crew is ready embrace the local cuisine through a culinary class and tortilla making lesson.

Caribbean Service Puerto Rico (CSPR)

Another day, another beautiful waterfall for our CSPR friends! After a morning of service, the CSPR team traveled to Gozalandia waterfalls for a refreshing swim. They enjoyed time around camp this afternoon, and are excited for another fun-filled day tomorrow.

Caribbean Service Virgin Islands (CSVI)

The CSVI crew had a blissful day in the Virgin Islands, celebrating the birthday of their courageous leader, Morgan, while soaking up some quality time in the sun. They kicked things off with a morning of service at the Nature Conservancy, clearing brush for trails. After a delicious lunch, the group headed out for an afternoon of adventure where they snorkeled and boated alongside incredible wildlife like nurse sharks, squids, and schools of fish. We’re so jealous! To wrap up their sun-filled day, they enjoyed dinner before playing some games.

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)

Day two of the kayaking section is looking pretty sweet! The group wrapped up a two day kayaking trip around Isle au Haut Bay. In other news, can you believe today is the last full day of the trip?! After kayaking the group went to explore Freeport and have an epic final dinner and dessert. What a sweet way to end a two-week trip exploring the Northeast.

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

It is another beautiful day for our bright and creative MCCE students to craft their essays! They were back to the writing workshop this morning sharing ideas, making edits and taking a few breaks for games of course! This afternoon, they had a college admissions workshop and picked our resident expert Anne’s brain with all of their questions. We are looking forward to seeing what stellar essays they produce by the end of this week!

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

This is our final trip to start this summer! Can you believe that? This MCJ crew is about to embark on a week-long trip exploring the Maine Coast via hiking trails, kayaking, and service projects. Stay tuned to see epic photos of their adventures this week.

New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)

Our NEMC crew ditched their hiking boots today and traded them for paddles as they embarked on their rafting adventure! It sure is a beautiful day to be on the river near the White Mountains. While they don’t have strong enough reception today to send us rafting photos, here is a stellar pic from last nights cookie decorating contest. This crew can’t stay away from their boots for long! They are going right back to the beautiful trails starting tomorrow.

Vermont to Montreal (VM)

Hot diggity dog, THEY DID IT!! Can we get a yippie for our VM crew for biking nearly 200 miles through Vermont into Montreal? Now that they have finished their riding, it is time for them to rest and get excited for exploring Montreal tomorrow.
