Day 3: What’s Your Apogee?

It’s day 3 and since it is an Apogee tradition to share highlights and lowlights of the day with A’s (Apogees) and P’s (Perigees), we thought it was about time for us in the office to participate. Our Apogee is undoubtedly the fact that we have 22 trips out in the field right now, which means 22 more whacky blog updates! Our Perigee would have to be that we can’t be out there with all of them. Oh well, blogging about it is basically the same thing!

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJCI, NEMCANEMCB, CRMGSA, CS, MCCEDEX, VMCRLSCMCA, CMCB, AKMC, NWXA, NWXB, PCA, PCBAX, PMC, ECC1, ACC

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

MCJ took on some iconic Maine hikes today as they explored the trails of Acadia National Park! Afterwards, they headed to the bustling metropolis of Bar Harbor to see what local gems were waiting for them.

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

Our CI group spent the morning getting their hands dirty at a farm on the Vineyard, before continuing their thorough exploration of the area. These little voyagers should be able to write a guidebook on Massachusetts by the end of their trip!

New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)

Big news! NEMCA has finally kicked off! After meeting up with Jesse and Ellie, they headed for southern Maine to enjoy a first night full of games and maybe even some s’mores!

Double Whammy! NEMC A & B!

New England Mountains & Coast B (NEMCB)

Woohoo! Another trip start? Too good to be true. NEMCB also took off to southern Maine, where Connor and Savannah practiced their acclaimed stand-up comedy routine (just kidding, but they definitely played some awesome games).

So good, we put it in the blog twice!

Colorado’s Rocky Mountains (CRM)

John Denver isn’t the only one with the Rocky Mountain High, our CRM crew did some legendary exploring today as they made their way to Estes Park, CO. Rumor has it that elk enjoy hanging around this area, and if anyone has a knack for wildlife spotting, it’s this group!

Golden State Adventure (GSA)

Check out those sick views and beaming smiles! Our GSA group continued their golden adventure with some more exploration of Los Padres National Forest and the Santa Barbara foothills. These champs stayed fueled up with some delicious-looking fajitas.

Caribbean Service (CS)

Oh man, how does this summer just keep getting better? Our CS crew convened in San Juan today before wending their way towards Utuado. First nights are for relaxing and getting to know leaders. In this case, the hilarious duo of Aaron and Kiana. Things are about to get pretty darn awesome.

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

MCCE has begun! After meeting up with iconic leaders JZ and Jeanne (we love co-leaders with alliterative names), these young wordsmiths took off to Orr’s Island. This crew is chomping at the bit to get their fingers (or toes) to the keys and start writing!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)

The good times have begun for our DEX crew, who spent the day hiking Mt. Battie in Camden, ME! Shoutout to this awesome group for sending us a beautiful assemblage of blog pictures to choose from.

Vermont to Montréal (VM)

Our first VM trip of the year has begun! After meeting up with Grace and Elliot in Manchester, NH, these bikers headed to Bomoseen, Vermont! A little birdie told us that Grace brought her fanny pack with a speaker, which means guaranteed groovy tunes for the whole trip.

Costa Rica Language & Service (CRLS)

The CRLS group spent the day playing games and spending time at the Hogar de Ancianos and the Hogar de indígenas. Afterwards, they made their way to a local waterfall. Looks like they have some dance moves to teach us when they come back!

California Mountains & Coast (CMCA)

Let’s check up on our courageous kayakers, who spent the morning paddling before partaking in an awesome hike at Point Reyes. Nothin’ but sunscreen and smiles from CMCA!

California Mountains & Coast (CMCB)

Wowee! This group has spent the day paddling before settling down for some sweet beach camping at Point Reyes. Not a lot of phone service where they are, but we should get some photos of today from them tomorrow.

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)

Our AKMC took off for the backcountry today! But first, they needed to take a stylish photo at Crows Pass on the path of the Iditarod. See you on the other side, AKMC!

Northwest Explorer (NWXA)

Our Northwest Explorers had a full day of Washington hiking in Olympic National Park – including this cool waterfall!

Northwest Explorer (NWXB)

Our NWXB crew has some talented game players who got to show off their talent last night at camp. Word on the street is that they have some experts at not having their Jedi Juice stolen (Any Apogee alum would be happy to fill you in if you don’t know what this means). Today, they explored the beach before heading off towards North Cascades National Park!

Pacific Coast (PCA)

Rise and shine PCA! This crew was pumped up and ready to hit the road at 8am! They just crushed their first hill and rode all the way to Sunset Bay State Park.

Pacific Coast (PCB)

Our PCB group was absolutely cruising today, as they made their way down the Oregon Coast. This speedy group was more than happy to stop for a little snack on the road!

Alps Explorer (AX)

Where in the world are our Alps Explorers? Oh, just hiking in Zermatt with the majestic Matterhorn towering above them. No big deal!

Pyrenees Mountains & Coast (PMC)

PMC got in some serious mileage today as they hiked Portarro d’Espot to get to their next campsite. Luckily this crew had plenty of yummy food and Liana and Connor’s (mostly) hilarious jokes to keep them goin’!

Europe Coast to Coast 1 (ECC1)

Huzzah! Our first ECC group united with Apogee celebrities Donovan and Emily much earlier today and are long abed. An epic day of air travel is about to be very worth it as they’ll start biking across Europe tomorrow.

America Coast to Coast (ACC)

Mamma Mia! These early risers made it out of camp 30 minutes ahead of schedule and spent the day cruising through South Carolina. Word is that these over achievers even had time for a quick ABBA dance party before they left this morning!
