So you want to make a difference this summer? A real, sore-muscled, mud-under-the-nails, dripping-sweat difference? Then pack your sunscreen and join us in sunny Puerto Rico. In this Caribbean paradise you’ll work as a team to repair aging rainforest trails, reforest a coastal wildlife refuge, and engage in language and culture exchange with local children. Your hard work and good deeds will be rewarded with plenty of adventure, too. You’ll hike, swim, surf and snorkel, and find out why Puerto Rico is known as “La Isla del Encanto,” “The Island of Enchantment.”

El Yunque National Forest & Vieques Island
Park Rangers will introduce our first service project among the cool, foggy peaks of the El Yunque tropical rainforest. In this rich ecosystem we’ll repair and maintain hiking trails and lend a much-needed hand on a variety of other projects. Between work days, we’ll take some time off to explore and hike the rainforest’s fern-covered trails to misty mountaintops and hidden waterfalls. Next stop, Vieques Island, to volunteer with local children. Through games and conversation we’ll help teach English and learn a bit of Spanish, too. Snorkeling, kayaking, and a magical, nighttime swim in one of the world’s most spectacular bioluminescent bays round out our exciting stay on Vieques.

Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge, Surfing & Old San Juan
From there, it’s back to the main island where we’ll join U.S. Fish & Wildlife Rangers in the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge. With their professional guidance we’ll improve valuable bird habitat by reforesting areas damaged by fire and clear-cut. Our amazing adventure ends with a surfing lesson at one of the sport’s most fabled beaches, and a festive final dinner in the heart of Old San Juan.
