(Another) Super Sunday

Sunday salutations to all! Days like today make it look easy. Sunny skies and cool temperatures like today’s are precisely what I would order up every day were weather decisions left to your humble scribe.

After a fair amount of apprehension about today’s ride, our Capers roared into Provincetown before noon today – easily conquering the hills that lay between today’s starting point in Wellfleet and the ferry terminal in P-town. Cyrus said that he and Lidia had the group up and ready to go before six this morning – this was no Times-and-a-cup-of-coffee Sunday morning for these guys! They’ll cruise, quite literally, into Boston this evening and explore the city tomorrow before a last big night out.

Speaking of big nights out (I’ve been working on my segues – how was that one?), our Mountains and Coasters wrapped it all up in Weston today. Aviva reported that they had a fantastic night out in Portland last night, and that today’s farewells were marked by huge smiles and the sought-after misty eyes.

And speaking of mist (this one is going to be a bit strained, just warning you…), there was none on the way to Pemaquid Point this afternoon. For the first time this summer, the oft-fog enshrouded peninsula was ablaze in sunshine and wildflowers for Evan and Cait’s group. Evan sent a shot of the group on the road, headed down the peninsula. Tonight’s campground includes the possibility of a hot tub (would that we could promise that every night!).

Not far behind, Mike and Meaghan cruised into Wiscasset in fine form this afternoon after patching up the first flat of the summer (and we’ll hope – if not expect – that it will be the last!). Mike sent along a picture of two of his guys doing their best Abercrombie imitations while setting up camp.

Our Mountaineers are excited to be heading into the Maine backcountry today – we’ll expect to hear back from them when they emerge in a few days. Right now, they’re fully loaded down with sleeping bags, tents, and five days worth of food. Soon, however, they’ll be regaling each of their families with the many delights of fried bagels and noting that seven-pound blocks of cheese don’t last long among trail-hungry hikers.

Kevin called in from Memphis a little while ago on his way down to Lubbock and then to Brownsville, Texas. He is enormously excited to be meeting up with the Coast to Coasters this evening. He’ll be joining them for a particularly empty stretch of road in western Texas and New Mexico. I imagine that Nick, Maggie and the gang won’t mind having him tag along - and not just because of his sparkling personality, but also because he’ll be carrying plenty of fruit, electrolyte-laden drinks, and ice, lots and lots of ice.
