News From the Field!

We had a bit of a soggy start to the day here in the midcoast area, faithful readers. But fear not, the clouds have lifted and Maine is putting on her best mid-July Chamber of Commerce face this evening! This is somewhat pertinent as we have three trips in relatively close proximity this evening – Mike and Meaghan aced their warm-up ride with their soon to be Quebecois; Evan and Cait set out down the coast and are relaxing poolside in Wiscasset; and Mike, Emily and Aviva got in some great paddling in Casco Bay today.

They are all delighted for the change in the weather – particularly our Mountains and Coasters, who reported waking up to find that several items had literally floated across the campsite during last night’s rain! As we speak, they’re on their way down to Portland’s Old Port to wrap up their trip with a big meal and a stroll through town.

I’ve included a shot Kevin took this morning of Evan and Cait’s trip as they rolled through Brunswick this morning on their up to Wiscasset. When we saw them, they had tallied up about 20 miles – and were looking forward to another 450 or so over the next couple of weeks!

Meaghan sent me a nice picture of some of the gang in her group maxing and relaxing in Freeport. They crushed their mileage today and were hanging out in town by early this afternoon.

Our Maine Mountaineers did a big shop today to get ready for their four nights on one of Maine’s nicest sections of the Appalachian Trail. They also found time to hit a great swimming hole near their current hangout near Crawford Notch up in New Hampshire.

Out on the Cape, Cyrus sent me another great shot of his group – this time posed with the long boards they used to catch some sweet waves on the outer Cape. Tomorrow is their last real day of riding – up and over the hills to Provincetown, where they’ll catch a high-speed ferry straight into downtown Boston.

On their penultimate night in Texas, Nick, Maggie and the crew are cruising towards Jayton. They’ve really started to pick up altitude as they head towards the mountains of New Mexico and Arizona. They will have a very special guest with them tomorrow night as our own Kevin Cashman is flying to Lubbock and catching up with the group for a couple of days. He was so envious of my upcoming trip to see them in Arizona and California that he felt he needed to check in personally, too!
