Still Soliciting Snappy Titles - Running Low Here!
Another unpardonable absence from the blog, my faithful friends! I apologize – but I do not hesitate to lay blame squarely at the feet of Mr. Cashman. I take off for one day and the blog falls apart – I tell you what, you just can’t find good help these days!
In any case, I have some great pictures to post today. Cyrus sent me a very artsy shot of his group’s bikes at sunset. I’m tentatively entitling it – “Bikes at Sunset.” What do you think? Their group has left the scenic islands and are now working their way towards Provincetown. Before they get there, however, they’ll make time to hang ten on the Outer Cape.
Over in the Presidential Range, our Mountains and Coasters conquered the mighty Mt. Washington today. I don’t know how many of you have seen the bumper sticker that says “This Car Climbed Mt. Washington,” but I’m hoping that our group all picked up stickers that say “Hey Cars, These Darn Feet Climbed Mt. Washington!” Mike sent along a nice shot of the group in front of a waterfall on the way up earlier today. Tomorrow, they leave the mountains to take in some salt breezes on the Maine coast.
Colby and Jess bade their students fond farewells today in Whitefish, Montana – it’s hard to believe that a trip of that scope can wrap up so seemingly quickly. Jess said that they had a great last night in Whitefish after hiking down the nearby, and aptly named, Big Mountain – and that today’s teary goodbyes came all too soon. Before she left on this trip, Jess finished a professional photography program and took a large number of pictures on the trip – we’ll try to post some of her pictures in the near future.
I hope that everyone caught the news coverage of our Coast to Coasters as they rolled through Jacksboro, Texas. It’s detailed journalism at its finest! Well, maybe not – but it is pretty cool to get the pictures of the group riding through the shimmering heat and hear Nick’s soundbite. They’ve now been covered by three newspapers and one TV station – we’re hoping their newfound celebrity status doesn’t go to their heads… Nick and Maggie wanted to publicly thank Mickey in Whitesboro, Texas, who very kindly drove several of our group over to the supermarket. They also wanted to thank the police officer who led the way to the town pool – an oasis if ever there was one – and said officer’s wife, who passed out fancy Fiji water to the whole group. Today was their day off, but Nick wanted me to let you know that everyone is feeling good and very happy to have received mail at today’s mail stop. I tell you, though, it’s hot down there – darn hot – Nick relayed that the temperature as they pulled into town yesterday was reading 108 on the bank thermometers they passed! But they are well-acclimated at this point and, so long as they stay well-hydrated, they’ll be in good shape.
Finally, I’m posting one of Meaghan’s pictures from her recently completed Coast to Quebec trip, she took some fantastic shots of the group and I’m sorry I can only post one!
