Today's Submitted Title:

My goodness, what a great summer day up here in Brunswick – brilliant blue sky dappled with passing clouds (to cool you off a bit and make you appreciate the sun all the more), sweet clover smells blowing in the window, and laughing kids all over the place! (For those of you who have been following our little blog all summer, it is sooo nice to be starting today’s posting with a nod to beautiful weather!)

I’m also very happy to report that it’s been another great day in the field. Out in Montana, Jess and Colby completed their last day of riding and pulled into the delightful Western town of Whitefish. Whitefish is nestled between Big Mountain and the peaks of Glacier National Park. It’s a fantastic spot to conclude what has been an epic trip up, down and around the mountains of Montana. We’ll try to get Jess and Colby to send us another couple of pictures tomorrow so we can share a bit of their last day with you.

Our Mountains and Coasters, just over the border from us in New Hampshire, completed their ropes course today. Mike and Emily sent me a couple pictures from their time in the harnesses – I’ve posted one below. Their whirlwind trip will take them deeper into the mountains tomorrow for several days of hiking some of New Hampshire’s biggest peaks.

Cyrus and Lidia made it over to Nantucket today – we got a great report from Lidia earlier today. They did some community service out on the Vineyard yesterday and had a lovely time moving hay around for the Farm Institute on the island. Today, they explored town a bit before catching the ferry over to ACK. Cyrus just sent me the below picture of the gang playing volleyball ("spike it!"). It’s not quite on-the-beach-volleyball, but given that they are only steps away from Surfside beach – and with the smell of the salt and the sound of the breakers, I think we can get away with calling it beach volleyball.

And down in the heat of the Lone Star State, our Coasteroos (if I can’t refer to our esteemed readers as “blogaroos,” I think I can get away with a variant of “buckaroo” for our students and their intrepid leaders…) had done almost fifty miles before 11 this morning. Their doing a darn good job of getting the bulk of their day’s riding in before the real heat of the day sets in. Nick reported that everyone was feeling good, despite riding on roads referred to affectionately as “cobblestone.” I can neither confirm nor deny whether there was a rather colorful modifier in front of “cobblestone” during our conversation.

Finally, Ellie, one of Evan and Cait’s fantastic students from their recently completed Coast to Quebec trip, sent along some great shots from her trip. Our blog only allows us to post three pictures at any one time, so I can only post one here tonight, but I’ll try to get some others up in the near future. Thanks, Ellie!
