Trip Highlights
"This trip was perfect for Blake. He came home with incredible self-assurance and the knowledge that he can do things for himself … and most importantly, he came home a happy, happy teenager!"

If Elton were here, he'd say

First – to our faithful readers – a hearty apology for our egregious failure to post yesterday! Truth be told, yours truly was enjoying a day away from the computer and out on the water. Indeed, it was an astonishing day to be paddling through Casco Bay yesterday.

And, as it happens, Rachel and Drew’s Mountains and Coasters are enjoying the very same Casco Bay waters today. They’re out on the New Meadows river, which meets the Bay up here near Brunswick. Astonishingly, they are done with their trip tomorrow! One more big night in Portland and then they, too, will be giving fond farewells and heading home to dream of next year’s mountains. Mountains & Coasters – we hardly knew ye!

Our Quebecois friends (they blended quickly…) are wrapping it up this evening, too. After many, many long miles and more pine trees than they could possibly count, they’re wandering the cobblestoned streets of Quebec as I type, looking forward to a bit of French cuisine this evening before loading into the van and making back for the border. Evan sent a great picture of the gang in front of the old city walls (which, as I’m sure you all recall, are the same walls besieged by Benedict Arnold and his troops in the early days of the American Revolution – before Benedict thought that the British had a better deal going.) Mike and Meaghan, also wandering through Quebec today, sent a charming photo of a post-rafting nap.

Nothing from Montana today – those guys are deep in Glacier National Park doing good deeds with the rangers. We should be hearing from them tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

In El Dorado, Arkansas, our Coast to Coasters are enjoying a much-deserved day off of the bikes today. They are being feted at a private ranch by a wonderful family who opened their pool and air-conditioned loft to our riders. Tomorrow, they’re back on the road and will cross into the Lone Star State – where they’ll be for quite a stretch.

Finally, in closing, we wanted to show you that we have the highest standards of cleanliness here at Apogee for our leaders – please see the below photo of Aviva, our 2009 support staff, on her way to the laundry.

Till tomorrow ~ Chad
